Post-Op Care

A)     Local anesthesia:  If your child has local anesthesia he/she may chew, suck, or play with the numb area (lip, tongue, or cheek).  This could cause swelling or soreness of the tissues.  Please watch your child closely and keep them on a liquid diet for 2 hours after the dental treatment to avoid chewing or sucking the oral tissues. Do not hesitate to call our office if you have any questions.

B)     Trauma: Keep the area clean. Watch for change of color of the teeth. Use ice pack if there is swelling. Stay on a soft diet for 2-3 days. Avoid extreme temperatures and follow the doctor’s recommendations.

C)     Extractions:  Minimal oozing of saliva and blood are normal.  If bleeding continues place cotton gauze firmly over the extraction site and have your child bite down for 10 minutes. No strenuous activity for the first day.

Office Policy

Appointments are scheduled in the morning and afternoon at your convenience. Younger children or those who need more extensive treatment should be seen earlier in the day when they are not tired.  We recommend that one of the parents stay with the child at all times during the dental experience.

About Us
Friendly Enviroment

First Visit

Our goal is to make the first visit as pleasant and friendly as possible.  The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends the first dental visit right after the first birthday.  During the first visit the doctor will try to perform an oral exam on the child and review oral hygiene, nutrition and prevention guidelines with the parents.  The exam will be performed in a non-aggressive manner to avoid traumatizing the child.  Dr. Bonyanpoor first and foremost gets acquainted with your child in the playroom and reception area even before they slide into the dental chair. Please let us know if there is any special concerns ahead of time.

Some Tips For a More Pleasant Visit!

Young children tend to be more cooperative earlier in the day before lunch time.  Check local bookstores for books about first dental visits to read to your child. It is important to have a relaxed attitude about going to the dentist in front of your child.
