Shana Bonyanpoor, D.D.S. is a continuing faculty member of the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. Aside from teaching she has 25 years of dental practice experience exclusively for children.

Dr. Bonyanpoor has established specific approaches and philosophies toward child dental care. She believes that a child must have a positive dental experience right from the start. She also believes that physical restraining for dental treatment damages the emotional health of a child and could be a traumatic experience for both the child and parents.

Pediatric Dentistry In Irvine is for children of all ages up to age 17. We teach parents new methods of dental care prevention and make an effort to provide children as much comfort as possible during their visit. Our rooms are equiped with built in TV'S in the ceilings for children to watch their favorite movies while sitting on the dental chair. We provide Nitrous Oxide Gas and IV sedation. We know that going to the dentist can be quite scary for a child so we do all that we can to make it pleasant for the children and easy for the parents.

Our Philosphies

Child Behavior Management

Dental care is known to be one of the most anxiety-causing forms of healthcare and pediatric dentistry is especially delicate. At Dr. Bonyanpoor’s office, we believe that a child must have a positive experience from the very beginning in preparation for a life-lasting healthy mouth.  We help your child understand the importance of dental health while eliminating any anxiety.

We do not believe in physical restraint!

Physically restraining a child in the dental chair (known as papoosing) is still a widely used method.  At Dr. Bonyanpoor’s office, we believe that thismethod is neither beneficial to the serenity nor the wellbeing of the child.  Physical restraint can cause emotional trauma for children and parents alike and is known to generate future fears of visiting the dentist.

Appropriate Alternatives

In Dr. Bonyanpoor’s care, most children are cooperative.  There are however cases where children are too young or unable to cooperate. In these circumstances, we provide nitrous oxide or general anesthesia treatment when necessary (i.e. for undergoing more serious dental care).  We do not believe in forcing routine dental care.  Instead, we aim to help children realize the importance of healthy teeth now so that they can practice dental health for all their years to come.
